A Discalced Carmelite monk, religious superior, spiritual writer, Bible translator, and missionary; one of the pioneers of the Hungarian Catholic pastoral ministry in Canada.

He completed his studies as a private student in Győr. On October 12, 1882, he entered the Discalced Carmelite Order. He completed his novitiate in Graz, his philosophical studies in Linz, and then studied theology in Győr. He was ordained a priest on January 29, 1888. He spent the first decades of his priestly ministry in Hungary. In Győr, he served as prefect and, from 1893, as prior. In 1896, he moved to Budapest, where he participated in the founding and construction of the Carmelite monastery and church, and subsequently became its superior and the provincial superior of the Hungarian Carmelite Province. In 1904, he played a key role in the founding of the monastery in Zombor and served as its first superior. In 1906, he returned to Budapest, where he served as house superior and provincial superior.

As a leader of the Order, he also supported the establishment of other monastic communities in Hungary. In 1907, he invited Mother Maria Theresa to Budapest; her community later settled in Újpest.

In 1914, he resigned from his positions within the order in Hungary and went to Canada to carry out pastoral work among the Hungarian Catholics living there. Since there was no Carmelite monastery in Canada at that time, he undertook diocesan missionary work. His first posts were in the province of Saskatchewan. In addition to Melville, he also ministered to the Hungarian communities in Kaposvár and Otthon. Kaposvár received a Hungarian pastor in early 1915, and Soós also undertook the pastoral care of nearby Stockholm. He is regarded as the first Hungarian priest in the history of Hungarian Catholic pastoral ministry in Canada.

In 1921, he returned to Hungary, where he spent several years. He sought to recruit priests and nuns for his Canadian mission, and after his return, he continued to organize Hungarian Catholic communities in Western Canada. His work thus extended beyond the pastoral care of individual parishes: he also sought to build up the Hungarian Catholic church’s institutional system and to establish churches, schools, and religious communities.

From the mid-1920s, he served in Manitoba. Between 1924 and 1926, he was chaplain at St. Joseph’s Hospital, followed by assignments in Mariatoba and the Sacred Heart Parish. In January 1937, he moved to Langruth, where he served until his death. From there, he also ministered to the Catholic faithful in nearby Riverton. He was instrumental in the construction of churches in both Langruth and Riverton. In 1938, he celebrated the fiftieth anniversary of his ordination to the priesthood; at that time, he was honored as a prominent missionary in Western Canada.

Soós also carried out significant work as a spiritual writer and publisher. He wrote, translated, and edited prayer books, hagiographies, and works of religious education. His prayer and hymnbook, *Rosebuds of Mount Carmel*, went through several editions; and by 1910, the eighth edition had already been published. A particularly significant undertaking was the *New Testament* based on the Vulgate, which he translated into Hungarian himself and annotated. Published around 1911, the volume was over seven hundred pages long and included maps of Palestine, Jerusalem, and St. Paul’s journeys.

His other works include numerous prayer books, meditations, hagiographies, and religious publications, including *The Life of Saint Teresa*, *Snowdrops for the Little Jesus*, *A Garland of Lilies*, and several works promoting Carmelite spirituality. Her literary activity was already significant during her service in the Order in Hungary, and her works reached Catholic readers in multiple editions.

He spent the last decade of his life in Langruth, continuing to serve as pastor to the local and surrounding parishioners. He passed away in Langruth on February 11, 1947, at the age of 82.
