Biographical data
He was ordained a priest in Košice on June 29, 1895. On January 19, 1902, at the invitation of Károly Böhm, he arrived in the United States aboard the S/S Phoenicia. Until 1904, he served as co-editor of the KMV alongside Károly Böhm, and later founded St. Stephen’s Church in Passaic, NJ, USA. In 1911 (after a complaint was filed with the Bishop of Newark alleging financial misconduct on his part), he became the pastor of St. Stephen’s Parish in the Diocese of Toledo. He arrived at his new post already suffering from severe liver disease and required continuous medical treatment beginning December 14, 1911. At his funeral, the then-Bishop of Toledo said the following: “I have come to bury an apostle; he lived in poverty and died in poverty.”
His grave is located at Calvary Cemetery in Toledo, Lucas County, Ohio.
