Biographical data

He is a second-generation Hungarian. His father, Kálmán Mészáros, was from Vas County, and his mother, Erzsébet Reindl, was from Veszprém County. He completed his elementary education at the St. Stephen Parish School in New York, NY. He completed his novitiate in Patterson, NJ. He took his simple vows in 1942 and his perpetual vows on September 14, 1945. He was ordained a priest by Apostolic Delegate Giovanni Amletto Cicognani in Washington, D.C., on June 12, 1947. He battled throat cancer during the last six years of his life, but—despite his surgeries and extreme pain—he remained active throughout.
